Draft

Rather than the typical salary cap system offered by other fantasy football completions, players are selected to your squad via a player draft meaning that no two teams in your league can contain the same player.

The player draft is the process of each team within a fantasy league taking turns to pick an AFL player to be in their own fantasy team. The player draft must be conducted by your fantasy league before you can start the season.

Draft Order

To keep the draft as fair as possible, the order of the first round of picks is selected at random. Because the first few teams have a bit of an advantage being able to select the best players first, the second round of the draft is done in reverse order. This means the last person to take their first round pick is the first person to pick in round two. And on the other hand the team that gets first pick does not get their second pick until the end of the second round. The order continues to flip for each round until the end of the draft.

Example Draft Order (6 Team League)

Round 1 Round 2
Team 4 Team 3
Team 6 Team 5
Team 2 Team 1
Team 1 Team 2
Team 5 Team 6
Team 3 Team 4

Contingency List

A contingency list is a prioritised list of players that you would like to select in the draft. When it comes to your pick in the draft, the first player in your contingency list is automatically selected. Should you have no players in your contingency list, the draft will stop and the system will wait for your selection.

Time Limits

Your league commissioner has the ability to set a time limit on draft picks or choose to have no time limit at all. If the commissioner sets a time limit e.g. 2 hours, you will have this amount of time to make your pick following the taking of the previous pick.

If there are no players in your contingency list when it comes to your pick in the draft, the system will wait the allocated amount of time for you to make a selection. If you do not select a player within this time, the draft pick is skipped and the draft moves on to the next selection. If your team is skipped in the draft, you have not missed out on taking their pick altogether, as soon as you add a player to your contingency list they will be selected in that skipped position regardless of how far the draft has since progressed.
